Prostate Cancer – Movember – Please Show Your Support

As a friend of Sarah-Jane’s, she has invited me to post on her excellent Blog.  So here goes with a few words about something I believe strongly in, that hopefully some others will feel like getting involved in to.

This Movember, the month formerly known as November I’ve decided to donate my face to raising awareness about prostate cancer.

My donation and commitment is the growth of a moustache for the entire month of November, which I know will generate conversation, controversy and laughter among those that know me and for those that don’t, through the pure pleasure of seeing a grown man grow an inordinate amount of facial hair, the levels of which have previously been unheard of on a face that usually glows with the radiance of youth, tinged with the aged cinicism of a man in his (ahem) late 30’s.

I will be sure to post a few photos of the facial hair growth as the month progresses so for those that don’t know me, you may find yourself intruiged/disgusted/utterly disinterested in the photos posted!

Please feel free to comment whether you decide to donate or not!

It’s all in the name of having a good laugh as much as it is about raising awareness about a subject often forgotten – Mens Health.  We as men, tend to shy away from letting people know about our health problems (unless it’s a cold of course, in which case we’ll cough, splutter, whimper and generally moan about it to all & sundry) and with prostate cancer beng the most common cancer in men, it’s an issue that can and sadly may and will affect us all directly or indirectly at some point in our lives.

One man dies every hour from the disease in the UK and I’m asking you to support my efforts by making a donation to The Prostate Cancer Charity. To show your support and if you wish to help, you can either:

  • Click this link: Allan Hobbs – Movember and donate online using your credit card or PayPal account .
  • Send cheques and CAF vouchers (made payable to ‘The Prostate Cancer Charity Re Movember’) directly to The Prostate Cancer Charity – First Floor, Cambridge House, Cambridge Grove, London W6 0LE. Please be sure to include the person’s name on the back of the cheque. The Prostate Cancer Charity will use the money raised by Movember for the development of programs related to awareness, public education, advocacy, support of those affected, and research into the prevention, detection, treatment and cure of prostate cancer.

For more details on how the funds raised from previous campaigns have been used and the impact Movember is having please visit by clicking this link to the Movember Foundation

Thank you in advance for helping me to support men’s health and if you can help by donating, however small, then please do.  On a final note, please pass this on to anyone that you believe may be interested in getting involved one way or another.
